Portland Review - Aug. 31, 2008

Robert S. Spitzley, 82, of Mulliken, died Aug. 17, 2008 at a Delta Township 
nursing home following a long illness.

Mr. Spitzley was born Aug. 25, 1925 in Dallas Township, Clinton County, a son 
of Leo and Theresa (Fox) Spitzley.

He was a Portland High School graduate an Army veteran of World War II, a 
longtime member of St. Michael Catholic Church and a longtime farmer, retiring 
in 1988.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alice Esch; brothers, Leo, 
Harold and Jerome; and great-grandson, Ethan Teeple.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Laurine; children, Marvin (Silver) Spitzley 
of Charlotte, Patricia (William) Arnold of Grand Ledge, Daniel (LuAnn) Spitzley 
of Mulliken, Jacalyn (Randall) Wilkes of Grand Ledge, Annette Spitzley of 
Belleville and June (Ralph) Beidler of Zeeland; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-
grandchildren; sisters, Joan (Ed) Schmitz and Wilma Schmitz, both of 
Westphalia; brothers, Philip (Betty) Spitzley of Lake Odessa, David (JoAnn) 
Spitzley of Mulliken, Roy (Alice) Spitzley of Sunfield and Alvin (Rosemary) 
Spitzley of Mulliken; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Aug. 21 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Grand 
Ledge, with Rev. Fr. James Eisele as celebrant. Interment was in Meadowbrook 
Cemetery, Mulliken, with military honors provided by Portland V.F.W. Post 4090. 
Pallbearers were Nathan Spitzley, Jamie Arnold, Randall Shilton, Joshua Wilkes, 
Stephen Klepal and Justin Beidler. Arrangements were handled by Barker-Leik 
Funeral Home, Milliken.
