David E. Spitzley, age 82, died October 10, 2014.  Mr. Spitzley was born 
January 29, 1932 in Ionia, a son of Leo and Theresa (Fox) Spitzley, Sr. and was 
raised in Portland.  He was a life-long farmer and member of St. Patrick 
Catholic Church.  Dave was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of 
the Portland V.F.W., Post 4090 and was a former Michigan National Bank board 
member. 

He was preceded in death by his sister, Alice Esch, and four brothers, Jerome, 
Harold, Leo and Robert Spitzley.  Surviving are his wife of 61 years, JoAnn; 4 
children, Sherry (Ron) Kempf of Mulliken, Kimberly Hurt (Ken Merryfield) of 
Sunfield, Kelli (Wes) Waldo and Scott (Natalie) Spitzley, both of Mulliken; 12 
grandchildren, Krystal, Travis and Tyler (Laura) Kempf, Andrea (Mike) Miller, 
Dustin, Braiden and Kramer Hurt, Jacob and Matthew Waldo, Victoria, Jill, and 
Zachary Spitzley; 3 great-grandchildren, Austin, Megan and Easton; 3 brothers, 
Phil, Roy and Alvin (Rosemary) Spitzley; 2 sisters, Joan (Ed) Schmitz and Wilma 
Schmitz; 5 sisters-in-law, Laurine Spitzley, Eileen, Jeanette, Germaine and 
Dorothy Trierweiler; numerous nieces and nephews. 

Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 
Portland, with Fr. Larry King as celebrant.  Interment with military honors was 
at Meadowbrook Cemetery, Mulliken.  Memorial contributions may be made to 
Hospice Advantage, 801 S. Waverly Rd., Suite 304, Lansing, MI, 48917 or St. 
Patrick Parish, 140 Church St., Portland, MI  48875.
