Spitzley, age 85, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2014. He was born on June 14, 1929 in Westphalia, MI the son of Robert and Irene (Cook) Spitzley. Mr. Spitzley was a retired farmer, spent 20 years on the Lyons Township Board, many years as a board member for Ionia County Farm Bureau, and was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. Donald was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, enjoyed working on the Greenview Point Project, also enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and playing cards, and was an avid woodworker. Preceding him in death were his first wife, Ruth in 1990; parents; son, Clare; brother-in-law, Alan Halfman. Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Helen Spitzley; children, Diane (Louis) Smith, Janice (Bruce) Fyan, Clarence (Lucenda) Spitzley, Allen (Julie) Spitzley, Eugene (Gail) Spitzley, Elaine (David) Keilen, and Marilyn (Gary) Schneider; 22 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; step-children, Kathy (Eugene) Feldpausch, Chris Edgell, and Joe (Judy) Edgell; 10 step-grandchildren; siblings, Helen (John) Fedewa, Marian Halfman, Philip (Sandy) Spitzley, Robert (Elizabeth) Spitzley, Louis (Ruth) Spitzley, and Paul (Elaine) Spitzley; in-laws, Leon (Jeri) May and Laurine Spitzley; many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo, with Rev. Charlon O. Mason presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Pewamo. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday, and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the St. Mary Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia. A Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Monday, a Scriptural Rosary prayed at 3 p.m. Tuesday, and a Rosary prayed at 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
