He was born on July 29, 1935 the son of Robert and Irene (Cook) Spitzley. Mr. Spitzley served in the U.S. Army, was a lifelong farmer, retired from General Motors after 36 years, and had a wonderful retirement of 25 years. Philip was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo, his whole life, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved and cherished his family, enjoyed time spent at Dickerson Lake, MI and in Mesa, AZ, loved playing cards and spending time with his family and friends, enjoyed making things from wood and sharing his projects, and was an avid Spartan and Tiger fan. On May 14, 1960, he married the love of his life, Sandra Simon. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Donald Spitzley; sister-in- law, Ruth Spitzley; brother-in-laws, Donald Harr and Allan Halfman; mother and fathers-in-law, Frank and Margaret Simon, and Harold Fedewa; godson, Glen Spitzley; goddaughter, Beth Fedewa. Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Sandy Spitzley; children, Catherine (Dave) Weber, Bruce (Robbin) Spitzley, Kevin Spitzley, Ann Marie Spitzley, Michele (Jim) Klein, and Jason (Christina) Spitzley; grandchildren, Jeremy (Natalie) Weber, Josh (Ashley) Weber, Carrie (Jeremy) Johnson, Ashley (Carl) Kleinow, Justin, Mathew, Monica, Joanna, Marlena, Jared, Julia, and Maria Klein, Adam and Ryan Spitzley, Brooke Spitzley, and Emily Double; great grandchildren, Riley and Cailyn Johnson, Adrianna, Blake and Colby Kleinow, Harper, Hunter and Chevy Weber; sisters, Helen (John) Fedewa, and Marian Halfman; brothers, Robert (Liz) Spitzley, Louie (Ruth) Spitzley, and Paul (Elaine) Spitzley; sister-in-law, Helen Spitzley; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Robert Schmitt; also surviving are many wonderful and caring nieces, nephews, and friends. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 29, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo, with Rev. Charlon O. Mason presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Pewamo. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia. Rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday, a Scriptural Wake Service held at 3 p.m. Sunday, and a Rosary prayed at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel.
