LAKE ODESSA- John “Butch” Spivak, age 79, of Lake Odessa, passed away 
peacefully at his home on April 23, 2007.

He was born in Dayton, Ohio on December 12, 1927 to Michael and Elizabeth 
Spivak, and graduated from Keiser High School in Dayton in 1946.

Butch was untied in marriage to Wanita Singleton on December 14, 1946.

Throughout his entire life, Butch was proud of his brother, Louis, who was 
killed in the South Pacific during WWII while serving with the Marine Corps.

For 40 years, John owned and operated AA-1 Building Maintenance in Lansing, 
doing primarily masonry restoration and was proud that he had worked on 
virtually every building on the MSU campus. 

John was a loyal Cincinnati Reds fan, and when he wasn’t working at Michigan 
State he was a true Buckeye fan. 

He loved to hunt and fish, and try his luck at a casino.

He loved kids wherever he was, and was always able to make a new friend.

John was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother and 
friend.

He is survived by Wanita, his loving wife of 60 years; daughters, Anne (Robert) 
Miller and Kay Spivak; daughter-in-law, Sandy Black; grandchildren, Tiffany 
Spivak, Kendra Kissee, and Ryan Spivak; great grandchildren, Isaiah and 
Christian; and sister, Irene Scheper.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Elizabeth Spivak; 
brother, Louis Spivak; and son, Louis Spivak.

A graveside service was held at Lakeside Cemetery in Lake Odessa on Thursday, 
April 26, 2007.

Arrangements made by Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa.
