Mr. Sprague served as deputy sheriff under William (Moon) Franch, Sheriff of Ionia county some 20 years ago. Mr. Sprague made a specialty of running down bootleggers and escapees from nearby prisons. On more than one occasions he was cautioned by Sheriff Franch to show more consideration for his personal safety in apprehending criminals. He is survived by daughters, Mrs. E. C. Beers, of Birmingham, and Miss Theresa Sprague, Lake Lansing. Mrs. Clara Brown, of Portland, is a sister. There are four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A son, W. A. (Al) Sprague, preceded him in death and was former operator of the amusement park at Lake Lansing. Body was removed to Palmer-Bush funeral home. Funeral services were held Monday morning at St. Thomas Aquinas church, East Lansing, Rev. Fr. Jerome V. MacEachin officiating. Burial was in Danby cemetery. Bearers were James Greene, Arthur Lehman, Merl Green, Gerald Bush, Forrest Townsend and James Flood. Among local people attending the funeral were Mrs. Clara Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Forest Townsend and Larry Townsend, Mr. and Mrs. William Dutcher, Mrs. Pearl Sprague, Gertrude Fishel and Fern Conkrite.
