UNCLE JARED SPRAGUE GONE
His Work Done and He Has Passed to His Reward

Another good man has finished his life’s work-here and has been called to 
receive his everlasting reward, a crown of life, and if ever there was a man 
who lived as to deserve that crown, it was Uncle Jared Sprague who died at his 
home in the first ward Tuesday afternoon. He was born in New York state about 
10 miles from Buffalo, Feb. 14th 1820 and was therefore nearly 32 years of age. 
At nine years of age his people moved to Canada, and when 24 years old he came 
to Keene township, Ionia county. While living there, he was chosen to the 
offices of clerk, treasurer and supervisor and also held many other positions 
of trust, all of which were filled in the same careful, earnest fashion in 
which he performed every duty. Twenty years ago coming March he moved to 
Winfield, Montcalm county, and seven years ago came to Belding to reside, 
having ceased active work. 

He leaves a wife and three children, Rev. Elmer E. Sprague, pastor of the M.E. 
church at East Jordan, Mrs. G.E. Shaw and Miss Isadore Sprague of this city. 
For fifty years he has active member of the Methodist Episcopal church and in 
his life and in his death he was a grand benediction to all with whom he came 
in to daily contact. 

The funeral service take place Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the M.E. 
church, Rev. O.A. Carman officiating, , and the burial will be at the Otisco 
cemetery. Those of the friends who wish to view the remains will please call at 
the hoe previous to that hour.
