The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Saturday, February 1, 1958


Mr. and Mrs. Clein Monks of Ionia were called to Hastings early Friday morning 
by the serious illness of her father, Vern B. Sprague.  Mr. Sprague, 77, died 
in Pennock hospital at noon Friday after a short illness.

He was born in Ionia May 1, 1880 and his first marriage was to Grace Breckon of 
Ionia.  Later he was married to Stella Carrews, who preceded him in death.  He 
was a baker by trade.  The Spragues moved to Hastings about 36 years ago, where 
Mr. Sprague made his home until his death.  His last employment was as 
custodian at the Methodist church in Hastings.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Clein Monks of Ionia, and Mrs. Virginia 
Young of Grand Rapids; two sons, Morris of Grand Rapids and George of Lake 
Odessa, and a brother, Otis Sprague of Hamlet, Calif.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Leonard funeral home in 
Hastings.  Interment will be in Greenwood cemetery, Grand Rapids.
