He was born Dec. 28, 1931 in Ionia, the son of Clinton and Julia (Anderson) Sprague. Robert married Elma Jean Hauter on June 7, 1952. They enjoyed 50 wonderful years before she preceded him in death on Nov. 12, 2002. Robert proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps/Air Force during the Korean War from 1949-1952. He was employed by Mitchell Bentley in Ionia from 1953 to 1971. He continued his career with Steelcase as a Graphic Illustrator where he retired after 21 years. Robert was a member of Saranac Community Church, the American Legion, the Ionia Masonic Lodge and the Ionia County Model Aircraft Club as well as past president and member of the Saranac Jaycees. He was a gracious, generous and kind man to all. Robert will be forever remembered by his children, Terrie (Doug) Abel of Saranac, Trent Sprague of Byron Center and Troy (Karen) Sprague of Lansing; daughter-in-law, Linda Sprague of Saranac; special friend, Judy Tower of Saranac; grandchildren, Heather and Travis, Tanesha and Jon, Tyler and Caresse, Hayleigh, Myles, Hannah, Kurt, Daniel and Lydia; great grandchildren, Natalie, Landon, Lucas and Maxwell; brothers, Clinton (Bud) (Lois) Sprague of Bitely, and Ed (Karen) Sprague of Ionia; sister, Carol (Robert) Hook of Gaylord; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dale (Bea) Hauter of Saranac and sister-in- law and brother-in-law, Joyce (Ken) Heilman of Ionia. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Tim Sprague. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 at Saranac Community Church with Pastor Becky Poor officiating. Interment Saranac Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lake Funeral Home of Saranac.
