Sprout Drops Dead Former Resident of Portland Expires Suddenly in a Lansing Factory. Charles Sprout, years ago a resident of Portland, fell dead Saturday morning at the Prudden Wheel Works in Lansing, where he had been employed. The remains were brought to Portland Monday afternoon and taken to the home of Frank Sprout, a brother, where funeral services are to be held Tuesday afternoon at 2. Burial will be in Portland cemetery. It is expected his sister, Mrs. Arthur Stilson, of Detroit, will come for the funeral. Mr. Sprout was about 60 years old and was born in Lockport, N.Y., but came to Portland when quite young. He clerked in John D. Woodbury’s store for some time and in later years went into business for himself, at Harrison, then at Greenville. When gold was discovered in Alaska he went on a prospecting tour and soon after his return closed out his business at Greenville. He next located in Detroit, but financial reverses came and in recent years he had been doing manual labor in manufacturing plants at Flint and Lansing. His wife was formerly Miss Lillian Goss, of Portland, but the couple were divorced. They have a daughter, grown to womanhood. ---- On account of a delay in holding the coronor’s inquest over the remains of Chas. Sprout, who dropped dead while at work in the Prudden factory in Lansing, the body did not reach Portland on Monday as expected, but arrived a day late, necessitating a delay of 24 hours in the date of the funeral. This was held Wednesday morning at the home of Frank Sprout, a brother, Those who came from out of town were Mrs. Anna Stilson, a sister, of Detroit; Mr. and Mrs. Will Sprout, Lansing; Mrs. C. B. Hill, of Lake Odessa. The finding of the coroner’s jury was that death resulted from heart trouble.
