The Ionia Daily Sentinel, Monday, October 18, 1943
Word has been received in Ionia of the death of J. R. Spurrier, 73, Sunday in 
a hospital in Ashville, N.C. following a major operation Wednesday, October 
13.  Funeral services are to be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at 
Marysville, Ohio.

Mr. Spurrier had lived at Nickle Plate for the past 14 years.  Before moving 
to Ionia county, he was a chief electrician at the Bethlehem Steel Works, 
Bethlehem, Pa.  He operated an electric plant at Nickle Plate and furnished 
electricity for the village of Muir before Consumers Power took over. 

He is survived by his wife, Lou, and a son, William, of Detroit.
