Squiers, who has been a resident of this city about seven years and a former resident of Kent county for more than sixty years, died Friday morning about two o’clock. The deceased was 76 years old and came to Michigan from Steuben Co., N.Y., when ten years old, and settled in Cortland township, later he went to Rockford and was in business there for many years, returning to the farm in Cortland and moving here about seven years ago, for the past five years he had been in the employ of the Belding Bros. & Co., until his health failed a few months ago. Dr. Stanton was called on Thursday and the shock came while he was with him, rendering him unconscious. He was an excellent citizen and highly respected by all with whom he came in contact. The funeral was held at the home Tuesday, Rev. Edrie Collins, pastor of the congregational church, officiated and the remains were placed in River Ridge cemetery. Besides his wife, he leaves five sons, Jay of Wisconsin, Fred of Rockford, Frank of Fort Wayne and Chas and Harley of Grand Rapids and one daughter, Mrs. Grace Beckwith of this city, two brothers also survive him, James Squier of Rockford and Charles of Cortland.
