He was born December 23, 1942 in Muskegon, MI to the late Raymond Carpenter and Isabel (Cross) Squires. Ray graduated from Muskegon High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the US Army from 1965 to 1967, during Vietnam War Era, where he was a Green Beret. He worked as Manager at Plumb's Supermarket and Radio Shack, and then as Corrections Officer at the Michigan Department of Corrections for many years before his retirement, moving to Grand Haven from Ionia two years ago. Ray had a quirky sense of humor, and enjoyed making others laugh. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, bicycling, and playin racquetball. He loved baseball and football, and was a loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers and West Michigan White Caps, catching the Tigers games on television whenever they played. Most important to Ray was his family. He especially cherished spending time with his only granddaughter, Reese. Ray will be forever remembered and missed by his three children; daughters, Laurie and Michelle Squires, both of Grand Haven; and his son, Raymond (Jen) Squires of Grand Haven; and his beloved granddaughter, Reese Squires. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Charlene Kromer. The Memorial Service for Ray will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Klaassan Family Funeral Home with Rev.Nathaniel Schmidt officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service a the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Alzheimer's Association- Greater Michigan, or Hospice of North Ottawa Community.
