Feb. 18, 2017 JOHN DEAN STEDEL John Dean Stadel left his earthly body to dwell in eternity on February 9, 2017, two days shy of his 88th birthday. His loving wife Ruth was by his side. Dean, as he was commonly known, was born to Roy and Maude Stadel on February 11, 1929 at the family home on Messer road, where he lived the majority of his life. He married the love of his life, Ruth Brake, on February 16, 1951. Together, they raised a son Dale. A member of Pleasant Valley united brethren church, Dean's first priorities were his faith and his family A gentle, loving man, he and Ruth never hesitated to open their hearts and home to family and friends. He attended Country School, and earned a GED. In 1975, after attending adult education, dean earned his high school diploma. Dean retired from the State of Michigan in 1990, having worked in maintenance at the Secretary of State complex. A jack of all trades, Dean was accomplished in plumbing, electrical and HVAC along with appliance repair. For many years he taught 4-H, volunteered with Boy Scouts and was certified to teach Advanced first Aid through he American Red Cross. Dean enjoyed gardening working his farm, and helping family and friends in any way he could, often calling himself a "house doctor." He was preceded in death by his parent; sister, Genevieve Francisco; brother, Charles Stadel; sisters-in-law, Carol Stadel, Etta Stadel and brother-in-law, Leo Francisco. Dean is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; sister, Eleanor (Norman) Barry: brother, Bob (Marsha) Stadel; son, Dale; eight grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Abiding by Dean's wishes, a private immediate family only graveside service will take place Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017. The family is being served by Koops Funeral Chapel of Lake Odessa.
