Additional Comments: From Ionia Standard, April 24, 1896: William Staines was born in Kent county, England, February 12, 1813, and died in Ronald, April 15, 1896, aged 83 years, 2 months and 3 days. He, with his brother, came to America in 1832. He first settled in the state of New York. Here he was married to Jane Allchin, October 30, 1833. To this union were born nine children, six of which are yet living. In 1864 he moved to Michigan and settled in Ronald, on the farm on which he died. About one year ago his wife died. They both now rest in the beautiful cemetery at Woodard Lake. Mr. Staines and wife with ten others formed a U.B. Church class in Ronald in 1864. This class now numbers some twenty members, but all the charter members have died or otherwise disappeared. Mr. Staines was a pillar in the church, and an accommodating man to his neighbor. Such a man will be missed in all good enterprises. Funeral services were held in the Woodard Lake church, April 17, conducted by Rev. D.H. Shelly.
