Faxon of Lyons Route 1 received word Saturday that her cousin, Glenn S. Staines, 64, of Detroit had died Friday night at Alexander Blain hospital in Detroit. He suffered a stroke June 25 which partially paralyzed him and affected his sight. Death was due to pneumonia. He was born near Fenwick and is survived by his mother, Mrs. Nellie Staines, 86, who has been ill for sometime. He was the benefactor of many blind people. In 1936 while attending a dog show in Chicago, he became interested in training guide dogs and soon after founded the Pathfinder Guide Dog school in Detroit. Later it was formed in a non-profit organization with prominent Detroiters assisting. He furnished Doberman Pinscher dogs from his kennels at Royal Oak and his charge for a leader dog was only the cost of boarding and training. The school will continue under the board of directors. Staines also owned a drug store in Detroit. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. from the Hamilton funeral chapel at Detroit with interment at Clear Lake cemetery near Fenwick. Mr. and Mrs. Faxon and daughter, Marian will attend the services.
