Bright Life Ended

Miss Claudia Staley Died at Ann Arbor Last Night.

From Saturday’s Banner.

On Monday last Mrs. J.J. Staley and daughter Claudia left this city for Ann
Arbor where they went for consultation relative to the latter’s health.  It was
thought that Claudia had an attack of appendicitis, and they were anxious to
know the worst, and if possible to relieve before it was too late.

Arrived at the at the University hospital the disease was pronounced
appendicitis and an operation decided upon as the only means of saving her life.
 The operation was performed yesterday afternoon and a telegram received last
evening announced that she had passed through the operation successfully, and
her many friends were greatly pleased to hear so favorable a report.

This morning a wave of sorrow was cast over the entire community when it was
learned through a second dispatch to her sister, Mrs. Doctor Sheldon, that the
shock had proved fatal and the bright young life, so full of hope and promise,
had passed to the great beyond.

Miss Claudia was a beloved daughter of Rev. and Mrs. J.J. Staley, both of whom
are well known in this city, Rev. Staley having occupied the pulpit of the
Congregational church here for three years prior to Rev. Butler.

She was a graduate of the Belding school in 1900 and taught one term in a
district school in this vicinity.  Of a sweet and loving disposition she won her
way into many hearts.  She was only 22 years of age, this sudden taking away
just as the bloom of womanhood was settling over her is sure to cause a wave of
sorrow over the hearts of all.
