Thomas H. Stanley, one-time Ionia resident. Colonel Stanley was killed in the service of his country north of Rome June 11, 1944. The officiating minister was the Rev. Howard Smith of the Ionia Methodist church, assisted by the Rev. J. Lee Davis of the First Baptist church. Pallbearers were William Normington, Lionel Normington, Leo Normington, Ross Normington, Conrad Churchill, Nelson Powell, Stanley Powell, and Earl Harrison. Attending from away were Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Normington of Dearborn Hills; Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Churchill and Mrs. Frank Normington of Carson City; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Harrison of East Lansing; Leo Normington and Ross Normington of Bangor; Mr. and Mrs. William Normington and Dr. and Mrs. R. Sykes of Muir; Mrs. Gertrude McMeen of Detroit; and Mrs. R. J. Kurtz of Howell. At the conclusion of the services at the Highland park mausoleum, the presentation of the American flag in behalf of the United States government was made by Hugh Hanson of Ionia, assisted by his father, Walter Hanson.
