Fletcher, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.G. Fletcher, was born in Rochester, N.Y., February 9, 1835, and died at Lowell, Mich., February 13, 1906, aged 71 years and 4 days. She was one of ten children, three of whom survive her, one sister, Mrs. E.W. Tucker, of Indianapolis, and two brothers, Jerome and Levi Fletcher, of South Boston. When Hannah was nine years old her people came to Michigan, living one year in Otisco, and in the spring of 1845 they settled in South Boston. Dec. 18, 1853, Hannah E. Fletcher and Abiel S. Stannard were married. Two sons were born to this union, Jay D. Stannard, formerly a member of the faculty of the Colorado Agricultural college, at Fort Collins, now holding an important government position with head quarters at Denver, Colorado, and Gates L. Stannard a respected farmer of South Boston. Both sons graduated at M.A.C. in the class of ’76. Mrs. Stannard was a very unselfish woman, a woman who lived for others. She was highly esteemed by all who knew her and devotedly loved by her children and grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Stannard were both great lovers of flowers, music, books and children. Three years ago they moved to Lowell to spend the evening of life and rest from their labors. Here on Feb. 2, they were both stricken with pneumonia from which they never recovered, Mrs. Stannard entering into rest four days before her husband. By their kind hearted hospitality Mr. and Mrs. Stannard had drawn around them a large circle of warmly attached friends, who extend their sincere sympathy to the relatives in their double bereavement, and unite with the entire community in mourning for the loss of two very worthy and excellent people – Mr. and Mrs. A.S. Stannard. The funeral of Mr. and Mrs. Stannard was held at the house at 1:30 Tuesday, Feb. 20, and was largely attended. Dr. A.M. Flint, of Clarksville, officiated. Interment in South Boston cemetery, both bodies reposing in one grave.
