Currigan currigan1932@concast.net September 9, 2023, 6:18 pm Belding Banner-News Thurs.August 27, 1953 Beatrice Stanton Died Last Week In California Word had been received here of the death of Miss Beatrice Stanton of Arcadia, Calif. She passed away Wednesday morning, August 19 at her home there after a long illness. The daughter of the late Dr.and Mrs.G.A. Stanton. She was born in Kingsville, Ont., and came to this city with her parents at the age of six years. they built the home at 123 E.Washington street and live there many years. Miss Stanton was a graduate of Belding High School, from the Normal college at Ypsilanti and later from the University of Michigan. She was instructor of Latin in the high school in Lagrange, Ill. for many years before going to California when her health failed. Funeral services were held from Lamb Funeral Home in Pasadena, August 21st. The body was cremated and the ashes, with those of her parents, will be sent to this city to be interred at a later date. Belding Banner-News Thursday September 10, 1953 Tribute to Beatrice Stanton The following item was printed in the LaGrange Citizen, the newspaper from the city by that name in Illinois and we think will be of interest to many of our readers: Miss Beatrice Eva Stanton, for 27 years a teacher of Latin at Lyons Township high School, died August 19 in California after an illness of 12 years. She was the daughter of the late Dr.and Mrs.George Stanton of Belding,Mich. Miss Stanton taught at LTHS from 1915 to 1941. The following "Memorial" was written by a resident of LaGrange with whom Miss Stanton made her home. In Memory "After having Miss Beatrice Stanton as a guest in my home for 18 years I cannot forgo writing a few lines about her. "Miss Stanton was a graduate of the Michigan State University at Ann Arbor, a summa cum laude student.She not only was a brilliant student but a very superior teacher of Latin. She taught in Lions Township high School for 27 years and gave her work all the strength and interest she possessed. She made a record in the quality of her teaching. Many parents requested that she teach their children. Pays Strong Tribute "Miss Stanton was graced with beauty of a distinguished type and possessed great personal charm. "There are doubtless many in LaGrange today who had Miss Stanton as their teacher. One distinguished citizen said LaGrange owes much to Beatrice Stanton for the work she accomplished with the youth in the community. We never can repay her. She was a perfectionist and her pupils profitted by it. "Miss Stanton has been an invalid with arthritis for 12 years and proved a brave soldier, fighting this dread disease. She will not be forgotten by those who had the privilege of knowing her. "I, who was her companion for 18 years, feel a loss that nothing can ever fill and a precious memory that the years never can efface."-Louise M. Titsworth, 400 S. Brainard ave.
