Stapleton, 73, of route 3, died May 17 at Butterworth hospital in Grand Rapids. He was born in Shula, Mo. July 19, 1902. He had lived in Belding since 1964, coming from Detroit. He was a retired inspector for the truck and coach division of General Motors and was a veteran of WWI. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Margaret McMellen of Burbank, Cal.; four sons, Robert Stapleton of Belding; Clarance Stapleton of Waterford; Herbert Grover of Davisburg; and Fred Luth of Clarkston; one sister, Mrs. Effie Height of Brookfield, Mo.; four brothers, Harvey of Brookfield, Mo.; Russell of Moran, Kan.; Cecil of Detroit; Warren of Kansas City, Kan.; 19 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Services are Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Charles M. Courser funeral home in Belding, Rev. Elmer A. Katterjohn officiating. Burial is at Easton cemetery in Ionia county.
