Starks, 82, of Ionia, passed away December 19, 2000 at her home. She was born the daughter of Percy and Grace Willmer on July 8, 1918 in Morley. She married Ray Starks on June 20, 1935. He preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1984. Thelma and her husband Ray started the Ionia Welding Co. in 1948 and two years later they began Ionia Auto Glass on South Steele Street in Ionia. Surviving are one son, Harold Starks of Carleton; one daughter, Mary Lou (Rex) Hawley of Southport, Fla; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Hazel Rice of Coldwater; many nieces and nephews, including her special niece and nephew, Bonnie and Jim Bennett of Lyons. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; son, Leonard Starks; two sisters and one brother. According to Thelma’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Friday from Rich Street Chapel of Cook Funeral Home in Ionia with Rev. Judy Downing of Muir-Lyons Church officiating. Interment in the Spring at Easton Cemetery. The family will meet relatives and friends from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Ionia Humane Society in care of the Cook Funeral Home.
