Stauffer, age 67, died from brain cancer on August 10, 2008 at his home in Olmgapo City, The Philippines. He is survived by his wife, Flora; four children; Elizabeth (Chris) Mouton of Texas, Daniel (Mari) of Japan, James of Florida and Mary (Ramon) Mercado of California plus four grandchildren. Also surviving are his mother, Ernestine (Althaus) Stauffer, brother, Larry (Nancy) Stauffer of Belding and sister Linda (Tom) Renucci of Ionia. His father, Lloyd preceded him in death by three months. John graduated from Belding High School and Michigan State University, taught school two years in Greenville before going to work for the Dept. of Defense and earning a Master’s Degree in education. He held positions as teacher, coach and athletic director in schools on our bases in Germany, Japan and The Philippines for 29 years before retiring to his home where he passed away.
