May 4, 1914. Miss Pearl Melissa Millard was born on the homestead farm of the Millard family in Clinton county, three miles northeast of Pewamo, July 31st, 1886, and departed this life at her home at Palo, May 4th, 1914, aged 27 years, 8 months and 3 days. Shortly after her birth her parents moved to Pewamo and she received her education in the local schools, graduating with honors in the class of 1903. After graduation she chose teaching as her vocation and for several terms taught school in Ronald township, giving great satisfaction alike to both parents and scholars. On May 8, 1906 she was united in marriage to Mr. Bert Steadman of Palo, and then at once began housekeeping in that village. Two children came to bless the union, Millard B., aged six years, and Dorothy Virgilene, aged five years, who by the sad death of the mother are left in their babyhood days without her loving, watchful and tender care. The death of Mrs. Steadman came after a short illness and was a great shock, not only to the members of her family, but to a large circle of friends as well. The funeral services were held Wednesday, May 6th, at Palo, Rev. E. Branch of Ionia officiating. Interment was made in the Woodard Lake cemetery. Besides the husband and children she leaves to mourn her demise a father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Lorenzo Millard, a sister, Mrs. George Arnold, and a brother, Cecil Miller. It tears sour heart with grief, more than mere words can tell, to be forced to chronicle the passing of one of the former young ladies of our village, who in the midst of all that life held dear is called to enter upon the existence that lies beyond the grave. We sympathize with shoe who are called.
