Steadman, who has been in feeble health for a long time, passed away at his home east of Lyons Saturday, aged 83 years, 9 months and 6 days. Deceased was born in Orleans county, N.Y., January 13, 1832. He received his schooling at Holley and later learned the carpenter and joiner’s trade. July 4th, 1853 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Pierce, and to them were born four children, of whom T. P. Steadman of Elsie, and Geo. H. Steadman of Lyons survive to mourn their loss. He came to Michigan in 1863 and selected the farm where he died on section 21, Lyons township. While giving much of his time to farming, he took an active interest in public life, and in whatever position he was called as an official; he served his constituents with integrity. Mr. Steadman was past commander of the Grand Army post and one of the most active G.A.R. men in this locality. He was also a member of Lyons Lodge F.&A.M. No. 37.
