He served three years in the 140th N. Y. infantry, a zouave regiment recruited in Rochester. He had been a resident of Ionia for 30 years. His wife died 26 years ago. Three children survive: William, a long time employee of Mansfield & Hoag of this city; Louis, of Fon du Lac, Wis., and Mrs. R. E. Patterson of Grand Rapids; besides a step-son, Thomas Griffin, of Buffalo, N. Y. The funeral for Frances Steady took place at Catholic Church Tuesday, and was well attended. The old soldiers turned out with over 30 in the ranks, under charge of Commander J. H. Laden. The bearers were Ab. Guernsey, Justus Beadle, R. Carpenter, L. Strunk, C. S. Cook, and John Eckman, under direction of Ed. Shattuck as officer of the day. Interment was in Oakhill Cemetery.
