Ionia Sentinel Standard - September 29, 1980

                              MARGARET STEARNS

LANSING-Margaret Stella Stearns died Wednesday at Provincial House South of 
Lansing.

She was born Sept. 21, 1907 in Chicago the daughter of Clement and Florence 
Kurk.

She attended Ionia Public Schools and graduated from Ionia High School as 
Valedictorian in 1924.

She graduated from Ionia County Normal School and Central Michigan University.

Mrs. Stearns taught school in Ionia, Midland, Crawford and Otsego counties. She 
retired in 1971 while teaching in the Gaylord School system.

She was a member of the Gaylord and Lake Wales, Fla. chapters of Alpha Delta 
Kappa.

She was married to Karl Stearns in Wauseon, Ohio Dec. 26 1929.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter Mrs.E.J. (Barbara) Swartout of 
Paris,Ill.; a son, Karl W. Stearns Jr. of Lansing and four grandchildren.

Services were held Friday at the Clipper-Bradley Chapel in Midland with the Rev. 
William Campbell officiating.

Burial was in Midland Cemetery.
