Carol Richard “George” Stedman, 93, of Greenville, passed away late Thursday
morning, March 23, 2006, at Metron of Greenville.  The son of James and Jane
Withers Stedman, he was born July 18, 1912, in Marshfield, Ohio.  He retired
from the former Gibson Refrigerator Co. in 1974, where he worked as a welder at
both the Greenville and Belding plants for 42 years, in addition to farming.  An
avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing and riding motorcycles
and snowmobiles.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 70 years, Frances Adail
McDiarmid Stedman, on Sept. 25, 2005; daughter Eileen Lowrey; four sisters,
Alice Lancaster, Irene Hysell, Mary Dishong, Betty Stedman; and brother, Raymond
Stedman.

He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Robert Roger of Gowen;
two sons and daughter-in-law, Richard Dean and Margaret Stedman of Langston,
Darrell Lee Stedman of Cedar Springs; brother, Melvin Stedman, and sister,
Audrey Dishong, both of Athens, Ohio; son-in-law, James Lowrey of Curtis;
sister-in-law, Eleanor Simmons; 10 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and
several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday at Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home,
511 S. Franklin St., Greenville, with the Rev. Jerry Jones, pastor of First
Congregational Church, officiating.  Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memory
Gardens, Belding.  Visitation is from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
