Stedman, 78, of Ronald township, Powell highway, died Wednesday afternoon, June 20, at Ionia County Memorial hospital where he had been a patient since Monday. He was born January 5, 1878 in Ronald township, the son of James and Ida Stedman. He was married to the former Mary Patrick in 1897 at Palo and operated a farm until 1911 when he came to Ionia and was in a partnership with Roy Catt, who bought and operated the Ionia Feed Barn for five years. He then moved to Traverse City where he was employed by the Traverse City state hospital for five years. Later he returned to Ronald township and was employed as a Star route mail carrier for five years. He was a member of the Ronald Board of Tax Review for several years, and was a member of the Palo Masonic Lodge, 203. He has held positions in various Ronald township offices. Surviving are his wife Mary, two foster sons, Alden Smith of Fenwick and James Smith of Ronald township and one brother, John of Ronald township. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the Stone-Kauffman funeral home with the Rev. Hubert Ellis officiating. Interment will be in Woodard Lake cemetery.
