The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Saturday, July 18, 1970

Roland Moody Steel, 71, of 345 West Tuttle road, died late Friday evening at 
Ionia County Memorial hospital.  He was born June 27, 1899 in St. Johns the 
son of Mr. and Mrs. David Steel.  He was married September 18, 1921 in St. 
Johns to Gwyneth Townsend.

He was owner of a clothing store in St. Johns until 1939 when he moved to 
Ionia and became owner and operator of R. M. Steele and company.  He was a 
senior active member of Ionia Rotary and Elks club.

Surviving are his wife, Gwyneth, two sons, David T. of Jonesville, and Robert 
M. of Ionia; daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Higbee of Saranac; six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday at Myers-Roetman funeral home at 2 p.m.  
Interment will be at Balcom cemetery.  Family will be at the funeral home 
Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  A memorial 
has been established for the heart fund.
