Walter L. Steele, age 68, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 15, 2005 at 
Spectrum Hospital, Blodgett Campus.  Walter was born on June 2, 1936 in Muir, 
the son of William and Grace (Hendrickson) Steele.  He worked for 26 years as a 
corrections officer at Ionia Reformatory Prison, retiring in 1991.  Walter was 
currently employed as a Home Delivered Meals driver for the Ionia County 
Commission on Aging, where he enjoyed visiting and helping all of the seniors 
on his route.

Preceding him in death were his parents, brother, Harry, nephew, Harry William 
“Bill” Steele; aunts, Florence and Hildegarde; uncle, Harry Hendrickson.

Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Judy; sons, Michael and Patrick and 
daughter, Debra, all of Ionia; sister-in-law, Janice (David) Miller of 
Clarksville, Marion (Floyd) Hewitt of Saranac and Sally (Bliss) Allison of 
Edmore; brother-in-law, William (Kelly) Yoder of Clarksville; many nieces, 
nephews and cousins.  Per Walter’s request, there will be no funeral services.  
A social gathering will be held in Walter’s honor for family and friends on 
Saturday, June 18, 2005, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the Ionia County Commission 
on Aging.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Ionia.  For 
those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Ionia County 
Commission on Aging, in memory of Walter.
