Steele, 77, a native Ionian who had been a registered nurse in the Chicago area for many years before her retirement in 1950, died early Monday afternoon at the Ionia County Memorial hospital after a long illness. Miss Steele, who with her two sisters lived at 16 Lovell place, was born at White Lake, April 3, 1880, the daughter of William N. and Nancy J. Steele, prominent Ionia residents for many years. Miss Steele came to Ionia as a small girl and attended the Ionia public schools. She later attended and was a graduate of the Evanston Hospital Nursing School of Evanston, Ill. She followed the nursing profession for many years in the Evanston and Chicago area until retiring in 1950 when she returned to Ionia to make her home with her sisters. She is survived by two sisters, Miss Jessie Steele, retired Ionia public school teacher, and Mrs. Arthur A. Hadden, a former Chicago public school teacher, all of whom lived at 16 Lovell lace. The former Steele property was located on East Washington street and was sold to Ionia city as the site of the present Ionia County Memorial hospital. Funeral services are to be conducted Wednesday at 4 p.m. from the Stone- Kauffman funeral home. The Rev. Fr. Roger J. Bundy, pastor of the Episcopal church, will officiate. Interment will be private.
