Thelma M. Steele, 89, of Perry Road, Lake Odessa passed away Saturday, April 2, 
1994 at the home of her daughter, Verlene Rhoades of Clarksville.

Mrs. Steele was born September 3, 1904 in Hastings, the daughter of Roy and 
Katie (DeMaranville) Tift.

She was married to Levi Steele, September 25, 1922 in Ionia.  He preceded her 
in death November 24, 1973.  She lived in Hastings and Midland before moving to 
the Lake Odessa area in 1922 where she and her husband farmed.  She also worked 
at the Hastings Manufacturing Company for several years.  She attended the West 
Berlin Wesleyan Church.

Mrs. Steele is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ted (Verlene) Rhoades of 
Clarksville, Mrs. Reuben (Retha) Rudy of Bellingham, Washington; three sons, 
Kendall of Lake Odessa, Duane of Sterling Heights and Roy of Jersey City, New 
Jersey; one brother, Clancy Tift of Florida; one sister, Etoral Castelein of 
Hastings; 13 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.  She was also 
preceded in death by one brother, Leo.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 7 at the Koops Funeral 
Chapel, Lake Odessa.  Burial will be in Fuller Cemetery.  Memorial 
contributions may be made to Hospice of Ionia County.
