Sentinel-Std. - Monday, Feb. 23, 1948

Leander C. Steele, 59, died Saturday evening at his home near Prairie Creek, 
after being ill for about three weeks. He had been a surgical patient at 
Blodgett hospital, returning to his home the day before. He and his wife, Ethel 
observed their 40th wedding anniversary February 9.

He was born in Orange township June 9, 1838, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles 
Steele. He was employed for the Hayes company for 25 years. For the past two 
years he had worked for the Ypsilanti Furniture Co.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel; one daughter, Mrs. Edgar Bennett, of Ionia; a 
son, four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held from the Myers funeral home Tuesday afternoon at 
2:00 o'clock. The Rev. Wayne Davis will officiate at the service. Interment will 
be in Highland park cemetery.
