He had been ill for six years. He was born August 11, 1896, in Ronald township, the son of William and Jessie Steele, and had lived all of his life in Ionia county. He had lived at his present home on M-21, west of Muir for the last 21 years and was a veteran of World War I. He was employed for 27 years at the former Ypsilanti Reed factory in Ionia. November 27, 1920, he was married to Grace Hendrickson of Ionia township who survives him. Surviving besides his wife, Grace, are two sons, A-1C Harry Steele of Lockbourne Airforce Base, Columbus, Ohio, and Walter Steele at home; two brothers, Arthur Steele of Washington, D.C. and Emory Steele of Melvindale; five sisters, Mrs. Lloyd Snyder of Ionia, Mrs. Leroy Mulnix of Lyons, Mrs. William Trower of Lansing, Mrs. Walter Peterman of Sheridan and Mrs. Clare VerHage of Kalamazoo. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Muir Presbyterian church with the Rev. Lewis Herrick officiating. Burial will be at Muir cemetery.
