L. Steele, who has been sick for about four weeks with what was thought to be muscular rheumatism, died unexpectedly Wed. at 11 a.m. He was not supposed to be in critical condition, and was preparing to dress when he suddenly fell over, and died before the doctor could reach the house. Mr. Steele was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, June 24, 1853. When quite young he came to Canada, and spent his boyhood in the Owen Sound Country, Ontario. He was married in 1880 to Miss Jessie Mitchell. Six children were born to them, of whom three survive; Mary, Jessie and Don. Mr. Steele came to Michigan in 1883, locating first at Muir, where he remained about a year, and then came to Ionia which has since been his home. At one time he was quite active in politics and served the city as mayor, but most of the years here have been passed in the quiet pursuit of business, first as a grocer, and later as a druggist.
