Steere, died at the home of her son, Wm. C., in Ionia last Saturday, aged 77 years. Deceased was born in Pennsylvania and came with her husband to Michigan in 1868, locating in Stanton, which has been their home ever since that time. For several years she and her husband have spent the winter at the home of their son in Ionia. Mrs. Steere has been in feeble health for a number of years, but the immediate cause of her death was a severe attack of grip with which she was taken about a week before. The funeral was held at Ionia Monday afternoon. Besides her husband, deceased is survived by two sons, Wm. C., of Ionia, and Geo. S., of Chicago, who is now critically ill with pneumonia and was unable to be present at the funeral. Mrs. Geo. S. Steere and her two daughter, Bertha and Mayme, and Mr. Wm. M. Thomas, of this city, attended the funeral. In Stanton, where Mrs. Steere had lived for so many years, she has a great many dear friends who sincerely mourn her departure. She was a faithful, loving wife and mother and a gentle, Christian lady, whom to know was to love. The Ladies’ Aid Society of the Baptist church held a memorial service for their deceased sister Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Bucanning. There was a large attendance, and each one present paid a tender tribute to the memory of Mrs. Steere as a neighbor, a friend, a devoted Christian woman and a missionary worker.
