Oct. 7, 2008 Eve Steere passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 3 at the age of 89. On Oct. 1 she had decided it was time to “be in Heaven: and God granted her swift passage. Eve was a strong supporter of the Ionia community and appreciated the many advantages of small town living. She saw Ionia as a wonderful place to raise her family. Eve was committed to a life of service, first to her family, then to her community. Outside the family, her passion was her spiritual and social relationships at St. John’s Episcopal Church wherein she devoted countless hours of Philanthropic work. She took great pleasure in her 4-H Club involvement, serving as 4-H coordinator for several years. Eve also served on the Board of Directors of the Ionia Free Fair and was an active member of the Literary Club of Ionia. Eve was seldom concerned about the material possessions that filled her house; instead, she cared about the people who came through the door. The coffee pot was always on, her arms were open for a hug and the cookie tin was stocked. You always left with your heart and tummy filled, feeling better for the visit. Eve is preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, David Steere and her devoted nephew, David Stebbins. She is survived by her daughters to whom she devoted her life, Constance (Marv) Wardell, Jacqueline (Todd) Brayman and Elizabeth Anne Fass. The special lights of her life were her grandchildren, Elizabeth (John) Ross, Matthew (Elizabeth) Brayman, Michael Brayman, David (Anne) Fass, Joshua (Melissa) Fass, Jessica (Jay) Schmitt, Rachel Fass, and eleven great-grandchilden. Eva treasured the love of special nieces and nephew Barbara Stebbins, Suzanne Mary Allen, Julie Ann Spray and Meborne Stebbins, as well as special friends Norbert Schrauben, Mildred Kirby and Jan and Dennis Arnold, and others too numerous to mention. Eve invited us to join her in celebrating her life which she described as “graced with countless blessings.” Family will meet with friends at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich Street, Ionia, Michigan on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008 from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 10, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church at 107 W. Washington Street, Ionia, Michigan. A celebratory reception will be held immediately following with location announced at the funeral.
