Steere Aged Veteran Answers Swift Summons. Daniel M. Steere, Father of Wm. C. Steere, died at 1 o’clock this morning, after an illness of only eight or ten hours, at the home of his son, W.C. Steere, East Washington St. He was born in Rhode Island on May 9, 1831. He served during the war three years, until the close, in the Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery, and was a member of the Stanton G.A.R. post. He came to Michigan in 1868, locating in Stanton, where his home has since been, nominally, at least, although he has spent his winters at the home of the son here for several years. His wife died at the same home four years ago. He leaves two sons, the elder one being George F., an attorney in Chicago. Mr. Steere was one of the Fremont voters who had an honored place at the Lincoln club banquet at Grand Rapids on Feb. 12, last. He was a kindly old gentleman, with a heart tender to little children, who all loved him. Funeral from the home where he passed away, at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday; Rev. E.E. Branch officiating. Interment, Highland Park. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/s/steere7162gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/mifiles/ File size: 1.6 Kb
