Daniel L. “Bud” Steffes, 65, of Belding, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July
29, 2006, at his home.  Bud was born March 31, 1941, in Byron Center, the son of
Peter and Elsie Armock Steffes.

He attended Ashley School and graduated from Belding High School with the class
of 1959.  Bud proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to
1964.  He was a longtime and active member of American Legion Post 203 of
Belding, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie No. 4321 of Greenville and a life
member of the Belding Sportsman’s Club.  Bud enjoyed hunting, the outdoors and
his tractors.  Bud had recently purchased vacation property at Beaver Island.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ida “Sis” Laux.  He is
survived by his sons, Scott Steffes and Brian Steffes of Belding; their mother,
Linda Whipkey of Greenville; grandchildren, Kylie Cherpes of Lyons, Zachary Barr
of Belding; and sister and brother, Rosie and Paul Scheid of Belding, Don
Steffes of Greenville.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home,
Belding, with the military chaplain of American Legion Post 203 officiating. 
Interment with full military honors will follow in Ashley Cemetery.  Visitation
is from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be given to American Legion Post 203.
