Stehman, aged 88, of Lake Odessa, passed away early Tuesday morning, September 5, 2006 at Thornapple Manor in Hastings. Alta was born in Eastern Pennsylvania on September 14, 1917 to Hershey and Elsie (Buch) Zug. She was married to Rev. Willis B. Stehman in 1941. Alta was preceded in death by Willis; and two brothers. Alta was a supportive wife, mother and homemaker, living in Mannheim, PA, New Philadelphia, OH, Marion, IN, Lima and Canton, OH, before moving to Lake Odessa. She was active in church work, enjoyed music, quilting, tending to her extensive fern and flower collections, and spending time with her great grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Gene (Martha) Stehman of Colorado, and Helen (Bill) Bulling of Lake Odessa; grandchildren, Kelly Stehman, Nikki Enz, Craig Hartzler, and Any Hartzler; great grandchildren, Sarah and Kyle Enz, and Marcus and Jordan Hartzler; brother, Bob Zug; sister, Helen Connelly; and many other relatives and friends. Visitation with the family will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 7, 2006 at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 8, at the Hope Church of the Brethren. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or the Thornapple Manor Activity Fund.
