October 15, 1953 JOHN STEINMETZ DIED SATURDAY John Steinmetz 80, retired railroad section foreman, was found dead in his home about noon Saturday. He had complained of feeling ill Friday and when Phillip Senters stopped at the home the second time and received no response, he notified neighbors who investigated and found the elderly man in bed. Deputy Clarence Aldrich was called and also Coroner Dale Kauffman of Ionia who said death was caused from a heart ailment. It is thought he had been dead about ten hors when found. Mr. Steinmetz retired about 15 yrs ago after many years of service with the old Pere Marquette railroad company. He had lived alone most of the time since the death of his wife Leone, March 4, 1948. Surviving are two brothers George and Claus of Armanda, two sisters of Howell. Miss Pauline Hendee of Ann Arbor and Mrs Francis Campbell of Saranac are nieces of Mrs. Steinmetz. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Pickens Funeral Chapel with burial in Lakeside Cemetery. Rev. Paul Robinson officiated.
