Ionia Daily Sentinel Standard, 2 Jan 1963

A lifelong Ionia county resident, John Stencel, Sr., 86, died at Ionia County
Memorial hospital January 1.  He was born March 20, 1876 and had spent the past
20 years on route three, Easton township.  He was a farmer and a member of St.
Johns Lutheran church and LBM of the church.  In April 1900 he was married to
Louise Hafner who died March 27, 1933.  Mr. Stencel’s parents were Michael and
Katherine Hackert Stencel. 

He is survived by a son John Stencel, Jr., of route three; 11 grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Mary Zanto of Orange township.

Funeral service will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Johns Lutheran church
with burial at Highland Park cemetery.  The Rev. Theodore Timler will officiate.
 The family will be at Boynton funeral home Wednesday and Thursday evenings from
7 until 10 p.m.
