Stephan, 80, of Ionia, passed away Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. He was born the son of John and Julia Stephan on Feb. 26, 1918, in Detroit He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a tool & die operator at the Chrysler Trim Plant in Lyons. He was a member of the Ionia Masonic Blue Lodge #36 and a member of the Saladin Temple in Grand Rapids. He also was a member of the Scottish Rite. He married Marlene Fahrni on June 8, 1979, in Ionia. Surviving are his wife, Marlene; two sons, Joseph (Jinnifer) Stephan of Belding and Erwin (Rose) Fahrni of Lake Odessa; one daughter, Nanette (David) Wheaton of Muir; five grandchildren, Michael and Olivia Stephan, Nicole Fahrni, Todd and Tammy Casselman; three great grandchildren, Catherine, Nolan and Grace; one sister, Ella Nora (Robert) Gargus of Utica. He was preceded in death by one daughter, two brothers and two sisters. Private funeral services will be held at a later date. Interment will be in South Boston Cemetery, Saranac. Memorial contributions can be made to the Shriners Hospital in care of the Cook Funeral Home in Ionia.
