Stephens, 67, of 127 S. Broas Street died Thursday morning at United Memorial Hospital in Greenville. He had been ill for six months. Mr. Stephens was born March 29, 1891 at Lakeview, the son of Ebenezar and Sarah Stephens, coming here from Cedar Springs 13 years ago where he worked as a meat cutter for Leppinks Market. He was married to Lila Becker November 25, 1916. She passed away November 4, 1957. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Charles (June) McNerney of Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Ralph (Leota) Meeuwes of Cedar Springs and Mrs. Edward (Joy Lou) Ames of Grand Rapids. Two sons, Charles and Elwyn passed away in infancy; four sisters, Mrs. Rhoda Eastman, Flint; Mrs. Nellie McNamara, Pittsburg, Pa.; Mrs. Ruby Gardner, Lake Odessa and Mrs. Bessie Blanding, Jackson; a cousin, Miss Thelma Becker who had made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Stephens for 23 years; three brothers, Josh of Marion, Malcolm, Lakeview and Westeron of South Bend, Ind., and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 o’clock at Huffman Funeral Home with Rev. C. H. Bacon of Remus and Rev. Frank Gillett of this city officiating. Burial was in Elmwood cemetery at Cedar Springs.
