          LERA S. STEPHENS DIES AT HASTINGS

   Mr. Lera S. (Blakely) Stephens, 82, passed away Sunday evening, November 12, at
Pennock Hospital, 
Hastings, following a long illness.

   Mrs. Stephens was born near Lake Odessa on June 22, 1890 the daughter of Frank
and Hannah Etta 
(Garfield) Foght.  She graduated from Lake Odessa High School in 1908 and taught
several years at Odessa 
Center School.  She was married to Norman Blakely June 1911 and he passed away
November of 1941.  She 
married Murvell Stephens on April 5, 1953 and he died May 15, 1967.  She and Mr.
Blakely moved to 
Kalamazoo in 1928, living there 16 years,.  She moved back to Lake Odessa in 1942.

   Mrs. Stephens was a member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church, where she
taught Sunday School 
for fifty years; a member of Martha Circle and Ladies Society of Lakewood church;
member o West Odessa 
Blue Star Mothes, member of Friendship Club and Hospital Guild.

   She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Hazel Bos of Kalamazoo; 3 sons Rev. Harold
Blakely of Bay Port, Hale 
Blakely of McFarland, Wisc., and Herbert Blakely of Lansing; 26 grandchildren;12
great grandchildren; and 2 
sisters, Mrs. Verna Cooley and Mrs. Maysel Rush, both of Lake Odessa. One son, Clare
Blakely, preceded her 
in death on September 21, 1971.

   Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Lakewood United
Methodist Church with Rev. 
Charles Dunbar officiating.  Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery.  Arrangements were
handled by Pickens Funeral 
Chapel, Lake Odessa.
