She was the daughter of Floyd and Vera Koontz and resided in Ionia for the past few years. She was married to Kenneth Sterling for over 51 years. Barb enjoyed her many flowers at home and at their cottage on Fife Lake. Her favorite thing at the Lake was to feed the young fish off the dock. Barbara was a seamstress for many years doing alterations out of the home for many friends and for a major women's clothing chain in Michigan. Until she retired in 2006 she was a claims adjuster for a major insurance company, working out of her home that last six years of her career. She was adventurous - sky diving at age 68 with her grandson, hot air ballooning and parasailing with her family, taking her daughter to Paris for the weekend and many cruise trips with her husband. She cherished the many trips in her daughter and son-in-law's airplane. When her health allowed in recent years she led the Ionia County Parkinson support group. Barbara is survived by her husband; daughters, Michelle (Kunio) Ouellette of Essexville and Victoria (Thomas) Dougherty of Orlando; grandchildren Sterling Ouellette and Lauren Ouellette; sister Joyce Link; sister-in-law Carol Randle, Janet (Raft) McHaddad, Marilee Levine and brother-in-law Paul (Lynda) Sterling; several aunts and uncles; and several nieces and nephews. Barbara is preceded in death by her father Floyd Koontz, brother-in-law David Sterling and brother-in-law Carl Link. The family wishes to thank Faith Hospice of Grand Rapids, and ALS of Michigan for their dedicated care and support. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Sisson Funeral Home in Gladwin. Visitation will be on Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, from 4 to 7 pm and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Per Barbara's wishes cremation has taken place. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider ALS of Michigan in Southfield, Michigan.
