Dec. 11, 2012 Lea Catherine Sterner, 79, of Pewamo, Mich., passed away on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012. She was born on Jan. 20, 1933 in Coopersville, Mich., the daughter of Alexander and Margaret (Blair) Reisbig. Lea married Dr. Glenn Sterner on Sept. 23, 1951, and together they shared 52 years of marriage. Mrs. Sterner worked diligently along side her husband in his veterinary business. She enjoyed her animals, working on and visiting the farm. Mrs. Sterner was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and spent time as a 4-H leader in her younger years. Lea took great pride in her flower gardens and plants, especially her 100-plus year old Christmas Cactus, which she feely gave away pieces of to all who asked. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, always thought of others, and was an excellent cook and baker, famous for her sugar cookies. Lea loved to socialize, laugh, and had a great sense of humor. She also enjoyed sewing, reading and bird watching. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Dr. Glenn Sterner in 2003; siblings, Helen Hammond, Nancy Addingon, Mary Martin, Alexander Reisbig Jr., James Reisbig, and William Reisbig. Surviving are her children, Glenn (Diane)Sterner Jr. of Pewamo, Dale (Christine) Sterner of Ionia, Susan (Tom) Hogan of Muir, Robert Sterner of Pewamo, David Sterner of Pewamo, Mary (Jim) Hefron of Pewamo; 10 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; siblings, John "Pete" Reisbig, Gary (Carol) Reisbig, Judy (Don) Eighmey, and Ann Henry; many nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday Dec. 14, 2012 at Lehman Funeral Homes, 220 Rich St., Ionia with Pastor Paul Clark of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fowler presiding. Interment will take place at Tuttle Cemetery, Ionia. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
