Some weeks ago Mr. Stevens had a severe trouble with his head and was confined to his bed for some days. He was out again, however, attending to business, and said he never felt better in his life. He was on the streets on Saturday morning, made his daily deposit at the bank and went back to the depot. Here he complained of not feeling well, and late in the forenoon went home. He laid down upon the bed, and about two o’clock became unconscious, in which condition he remained up to the time of his death, which occurred at one o’clock Sunday morning, only twelve hours after he was attending to his business. Mr. Stevens had been in the employ of the railroad company at this place upward of eighteen years, and was a thoroughly competent man in the business, coming here from Lansing. At the time of his death he was fifty-three years of age, and leaves a wife and one son – Wm. M. Stevens, Detroit. The funeral occurred at the Baptist church yesterday afternoon, the Rev. Anderson officiating. The remains were under escort of the Masonic and A.O.U.W. fraternities, of which the deceased was a member, and he was buried with Masonic honors.
