Bennett was born in the town of Sommersett, Niagara county, N.Y., April 30, 1841. At the age of 11 years she came with her parents to Michigan, first locating north-west of Muir, then at the village of Lyons, and finally settling on the Bennett farm one and a half miles south-east of Lyons. She secured the most of her schooling at the Lyons Union School and afterwards taught nine terms in succession. On January 30, 1864, she married Benevolent H. Stevens. To this union one son, Frank R., was born and lived to the age of 20 years. She died at her home in Lyons March 16, 1911, aged 69 years, 10 months and 16 days. The funeral was held at her home Saturday, conducted by Rev. James E. Wilkinson of Ionia. Burial in Portland. She is survived by her husband and a host of friends. Her father, mother and two sisters had passed on before. The out-of-town friends who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Kern, Bay City, Mrs. Wm.
